is this for me? why thank you….

ever since i could remember, i was always taking clothes apart and then saving the stashes for a “rainy” day.
my mom got the bright idea to get me a sewing machine when i was 12. it was a brother.
she got it from spiegal for like 200$ ( its now worth like 40, but i still use it)
and i LOVED IT!!!

but we’ll get back to that at a later time when i can find the first refashioned item i made ( a silk wrist bag…now where is that thing!!)

SO, if you don’t know by now, through the kindness of the textiles department @ my job…i get alot of leftover textiles.LOTS ( note to self take pics of my sewing room). And every so often, i find myself making last minutes gifts for friends.

This was such an occasion.

We were going up to vermont to see skippy and nina. BUT i thought, ok we are bringing wine for skippy, but we need to bring nina something. SO the night before we left, i sat and looked around to see what textiles could i use.

AND poof! some KnollTextiles in Cato and some Proenza Schouler for Knoll luxe in Sands.
i added a vintage button and elastic, and helloooo adorable makeup bag.

overall, i was sooo happy with it. then i realized. I only made one, and i have enough to maybe make two. but i rather not.
i rather have nina, have the only one ever made.

from start to finish it was a 2 hour project.

clutchy clutch clutch

i finally got up and decided that even though it was rainy out, i would be productive in some way shape or form.
and since tonight we are meeting up with my old friend from college for a double date and IT is her bday and i havent seen her in YEARS.

i said to myself, self…you will make nora a make-up clutch.
hmm but what textile to use?

since i have an abundance of Knolltextiles i went to one called Obi and used scrap dupioni silk for the lining.
half way through i realized that the ribbon leaves i sewed onto the clutch..WHERE TOO FAR APART ( i left my camera upstairs and didnt have the energy to grab it…next time i will capture the near fatal CRAFT FAIL)

ok so i thought…how can i save this??? BUTTONS

im very happy it wasnt a fail whale . even though i had nothing to wrap it in then i found my stash of mod gift boxes i got @ container store last year on a whimp.

here is hoping that she likes it!!!!

total time spent on this clutch was 2 hours. prep, cutting, pressing, cursing, sewing, pressing and drinking cranberry juice like it was going out of style.
